SCHOOL children from Mold have helped spread some festive spirit by visiting a care home in Wrexham.

Dementia care home Haulfryn Care Cymau welcomed students from Ysgol Terrig, Treuddyn, on Tuesday and the children sang Christmas songs they had been practising before they joined the residents in decorating a Christmas themed ginger bread house and plenty of cupcakes.

The idea of bringing older people together with the younger generation is a special initiative with the thinking behind it was about opening the care home to the wider community and enhancing connections and communication across the generations.

Intergenerational work is a big movement in trying to break down barriers that have existed for years around the older generation and mental health.

Children coming into the care home environment helps to diminish the stigma attached to mental health and improves understanding within future generations.

Headteacher Nia Connah said: “We at Ysgol Terrig have valued our time at Haulfryn care home. Time spent with residents has been enjoyable and we are looking forward to our next visit in the New Year.”
