FIRE crews were called to a metal shipping container on fire in Ellesmere Port.

Two fire engines from the Port station were called to New Bridge Road just before 6.30pm yesterday (Monday, December 10).

The container, which was in an open field, was well alight.

A spokesperson for Cheshire Fire & Rescue Service said: "Crews cut away the partition wall then wearing one breathing apparatus crews used two hose reels to extinguish the fire.

"The area was then fully dampened down and made safe."
