A CHARITY has launched an app for families with disabled children that allows them to leave feedback for others about local services and attractions.

It was made possible following a successful funding application to Cheshire West and Chester Council and launched at an event that also celebrated the achievements of Live! volunteers.

Live! provides a varied programme of inclusive and accessible recreational and educational clubs, social activities and projects for disabled children, young people and adults.

Based at The New Scene Centre on Newton Lane, Chester, people come from across Cheshire, Wirral and North Wales to make friends and have fun.

The aim is to increase their self-esteem and confidence, improve physical and mental well-being and develop social, vocational and independent living skills.

The charity’s new mystery shopper-style app allows families and young people with disabilities to review and share information about their experiences as well as promote disability awareness.

A spokesman said: “Assisted by Martin Hayley, of Eazi Apps, we designed and created the Livecheshire App.

“This enables users to leave and read reviews, focusing on accessibility, location, and attitudes of staff. The data that is generated is then looked at by our Young People’s Disability Awareness group who have created awareness workshops that will be offered to businesses and services to help them improve the experience they offer to people who have a disability.

“The Livecheshire App also promotes the work of the charity with a constant feed of information regarding sessions and events taking place at Live! details of partner agencies and suggestions for accessible days out.”

People can download the app from the App Store and Google Play and it is available for free on IOS and Android.

The spokesman added: “As well as the launch of our app we are also celebrating 25 years of Live! and the continued support of our volunteers.

“Some of our members have been with us from day one and are now very valued volunteers, some of which will be receiving an outstanding contribution to Live! award on the celebration evening.

“We are currently working with 25 volunteers who have various roles across the organisation, from supporting on after school clubs, assisting with Give It A Spin our adapted cycle programme, Duke of Edinburgh Award and running workshops in our Live! Lounge.”
