A YOUNG man from Ellesmere Port has sadly died following a rescue at Helsby Hill over the weekend.

Emergency services were called at about 2.45pm on Saturday, December 1, amid reports of a 20-year-old man needing to be rescued on Helsby Hill on Old Chester Road, Frodsham.

Four fire engines attended the scene from Powey Lane, Chester, Ellesmere Port and a support pump from Lymm. Crews were there for about two-and-a-half hours, along with police and ambulance crews.

The young man, from Ellesmere Port, had serious injuries and was trapped on the side of a cliff face.

Emergency teams rescued him and took him to Fazackley Hospital in Merseyside, but sadly despite the best efforts of all those involved the man has since passed away.

The death is not being treated as suspicious and a case file will be prepared for the coroner.

As part of the preparation for the coroners file police are keen to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time and has any information which could help piece together what happened.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Cheshire Police on 101, quoting IML 256995.
