LOCAL schoolchildren have created eye-catching artwork to decorate the hoardings of Chester’s newest care home.

Students from Dee Banks School were invited by Care UK to get creative with a piece of artwork around the theme of ‘who do you care about?’

The artwork is now on display on the hoardings surrounding Deewater Grange on Chester Road as the care home begins to take shape.

The children who designed the artwork visited the site to see their drawings up on display, with the help of construction partners, Metnor Construction.

The multi-million-pound purpose-built care home, which will provide full-time residential, nursing and specialist dementia care for up to 58 older people in Chester, is due to open in winter 2019.

Tim Parker, construction manager for Care UK, said: “We were delighted to be able to collaborate with Dee Banks School on a lovely art project to brighten up our hoardings.

“It was great to welcome the children to see their pictures displayed and we look forward to working with the school on future projects.”

Judith McGuiness, headteacher at the school, added: “We were thrilled when Care UK asked us to be part of their exciting new venture here in Chester. The children had a great time creating the artwork and loved seeing it displayed for all the community to see.”

Designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence, the new care home will incorporate space for hobby and leisure activities. The layout of the building will be configured into a series of individual suites, each having a dedicated lounge/dining room to help facilitate the creation of close-knit communities.
