YOBS hurled fireworks at police cars and a PCSO in Ellesmere Port causing more than £1,000 worth of damage.

The incident happened as officers attended reports of youths throwing fireworks in the Bunbury Green area on Bonfire Night.

Cheshire Constabulary has now been left with a £1,180 repair bill after two vehicles were damaged.

One of the cars had its windscreen cracked by a firework as the officers searched for offenders on foot.

The other suffered damage to its wing mirror, bonnet and rear nearside window after officers had got out of the car to assist a PCSO who was having fireworks thrown at her by a group of youths.

So far four arrests have been made.

Detective Inspector Nigel Parr, of the Ellesmere Port Local Policing Unit, said: “Between around 7pm and 7.30pm on Bonfire Night officers were dealing with reports of a group of youths throwing fireworks and displaying disorderly behaviour in the Bunbury Green area of Ellesmere Port.

“When officers located the youths they had missiles thrown at them and when they returned to their cars they discovered that two of the vehicles had been damaged.

“This type of violent and dangerous behaviour will not be tolerated.

“We are committed to doing all that we can to tackle such behaviour and we will continue to work with the community and partner agencies to ensure that Ellesmere Port is a safe place to live and work.

“We made four arrests on Bonfire Night and images of other offenders were potentially captured on officers’ body-worn cameras during this period of disorder.

“We are currently reviewing several hours of footage as well as footage from CCTV cameras in an effort to identify all of those involved.

“I urge anyone who witnessed criminal or anti-social behaviour in the Ellesmere Port LPU area on Bonfire Night or knows the identities of any of the offenders to get in touch.”

A 15-year-old boy from Great Sutton, Ellesmere Port, was arrested on suspicion of committing a public order offence and resisting a constable in the execution of their duty and a 16-year-old boy from Ellesmere Port was arrested on suspicion of resisting a constable in the execution of their duty. They have both been released pending further enquiries.

Two other boys from Ellesmere Port, aged 15 and 16, were also arrested on suspicion of resisting a constable in the execution of their duty. They have both been released without charge.
