A 10-VEHICLE collision involving several HGVs has blocked the M6 motorway between junctions 18 and 19 on the southbound carriageway near Knutsford.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area as two lanes of the motorway are currently closed on the southbound carriageway and long delays are expected heading north.

A total of 10 vehicles are involved, including a car transporter, a double-decker bus and several HGVS, but fortunately the incident has resulted in just two drivers receiving minor injuries.

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service crews extricated one man from one of the vehicles. He was handed into the care of paramedics and is believed to have minor injuries.

The North West Motorway Police reported on Twitter: "Two drivers have been checked over and thankfully minor injuries only.

"We are hoping to open lane 3 but this will not be until recovery arrive. The main thing is the drivers are OK."

A spokesperson for Cheshire police said: "Emergency services are in attendance at the scene and a full closure is currently in place on the southbound carriageway between junction 19, Knutsford, and Junction 18, Middlewich."
