A COMMUNITY room with ‘first class’ facilities has opened at a school in Little Sutton thanks to help from homebuilder Redrow.

St Mary of the Angels Primary School secured £1,500 via Redrow’s Ledsham Community Fund, a scheme that has seen £15,000 shared between good causes near to Ledsham Garden Village.

Robert Hughes, headteacher at St Mary of the Angels, said: “With the neighbourhood growing we wanted to improve our community facilities by transforming a tired looking room into a space local groups could enjoy using.

"With Redrow’s support we were able to redecorate the room over the summer holidays and purchase new furniture. It now looks warm and welcoming.

“We’ve already hosted family learning sessions, early years information events, a health drop-in clinic and the parish church has held tea and chat meetings.

"The verdict from those who’ve used the room so far is that it’s lovely, with first class facilities. We are so pleased with the end results and are looking forward to hosting many more events.”

St Mary of the Angels is around a mile from Ledsham Garden Village, where Redrow is creating 2,000 homes across two neighbouring developments, Oaklands and Sycamore Green.

Elaine Mounsey, area sales manager for Redrow Homes (NW), said: “Schools aren’t simply places for learning, they’re at the very heart of our communities.

"When we heard that St Mary of the Angels wanted to create a space that people from the neighbourhood could use we were happy to help. The project supports our ethos of creating friendly and thriving communities wherever we build.”
