MOTORISTS have been urged to avoid part of Connah's Quay due to an ongoing incident.

North Wales Fire and Rescue Service confirmed a call was received just before 9.30am reporting a vehicle fire in High Street.

One crew from Deeside is currently in attendance at the scene.

According to the fire and rescue service, one casualty was involved in the blaze.

North Wales Police has called on the public to avoid the area.

A spokesman said: "We are currently dealing with an incident on the High Street in Connah's Quay.

"Emergency services are in attendance and we are asking for people to please avoid the area.

"We will update as and when we can. Thanks for your patience."

Connah's Quay Town Council posted on Twitter: "Due to a serious police incident in the square outside the Civic Hall we have been advised that the Hall has to be closed.

"Unfortunately the blood donor sessions today have had to be cancelled as a result."

A spokesman for Flintshire Council added: "Due to a police incident in Connah's Quay, the Connah's Quay Flintshire Connects and Library building will be closed for the rest of the day. We are sorry for any inconvenience caused."

Golftyn Ward councillor Andy Dunbobbin tweeted: "I [saw] the smoke along the main road and immediately went to help.

"Car in flames and the poor driver was as well. Truly horrific scene. I’m still digesting what I’ve just witnessed.

"I wish I could ease people’s fears but the man was engulfed in flames. Me and others were shouting for him to lie down so the flames would extinguish. It was horrible and felt so helpless."
