ON Halloween evening a chilling ghost story will be staged at the the award-winning Lion Salt Works Museum in Northwich, Cheshire.

The Haunted Man, by Kindred Theatre, is an atmospheric new play adapted from the ghost story by Charles Dickens. It is about how past and present collide in the modern day.

The spooky show features candles, shadows and puppetry in the evocative historic setting.

The play is about Jonathan, who has recently moved into a care home. As his mind deteriorates and reality becomes confused, one memory stays strong - the memory of past love and betrayal. It is the one memory he wishes to forget. A present arrives and Jonathan’s carer reads aloud the story of ‘The Haunted Man’. The book invokes visions of Jonathan’s past life and with them comes a ghostly visitation and a phantom who offers the gift of forgetting.

Councillor Louise Gittins, Cabinet Member Communities and Wellbeing, Cheshire West & Chester Council said: “This atmospheric play combines candlelight, shadows and puppetry with a story about love, loss, friendship and the true value of memory. There could be no better place to see this fascinating performance than at the historic Lion Salt Works Museum on Halloween Night.”

The Lion Salt Works Museum in Northwich, Cheshire was re-opened in 2015 after a four-year, £10 million restoration and tells the story of salt through fun, interactive displays including a ‘sound and light’ show, a ‘subsiding house’ and an automaton. Throughout the year, it has talks, performances, displays and events such as half-term Halloween activities, exhibitions, folk performances, a Christmas Fair and school trips. Parking is free and there is access to a café, shop, play area and butterfly garden.

The Hunsted Man will be staged on Wednesday, October 31, at 7.30pm. Doors open at 6.45pm.

Tickets cost £9 for adults and £6.50 for under 15-year olds. Family tickets are available.
