HEALTH and fitness is all the rage in Blacon thanks to sports and exercise classes supported by Sanctuary Housing.

As part of its Love Sport initiative, Sanctuary is supporting Rage Leisure to deliver yoga and keep fit classes suitable for people of all abilities at Blacon Adventure Playground, Kipling Road.

As well as giving residents the chance to try something new, it is hoped the sessions will encourage people who don’t normally exercise to develop a regular sporting habit.

With funding from Sanctuary, sessions have been offered for free throughout September, while they will now be subsidised to cost £3 each for Blacon residents.

A variety of classes are on offer, including ‘Major Rage’ group fitness classes at 7pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays, ‘R Release’ yoga sessions at 8pm on Tuesdays and ‘Fit Mums’ classes at 9.30am on Fridays.

Rage Leisure, which is run by ex-marine Craig Brown, also offers mentoring and personal development services, helping participants increase their confidence and improve their physical and mental wellbeing.

Craig said: “Regular exercise is so important for both physical and mental wellbeing and we’re delighted to be working with Sanctuary to offer Blacon residents the opportunity to get involved and discover the benefits.”

The Love Sport initiative is taking place in neighbourhoods around the country and aims to engage more than 2,250 residents in sport and fitness activities.

Sanctuary’s financial commitment to the five-year programme has been matched by Sport England, through National Lottery investment, to help deliver the sessions.

Chris Leicester, Sanctuary’s neighbourhood partnerships manager in Blacon, added: “Love Sport is about providing opportunities for people to enjoy physical activity and encouraging those who perhaps don’t usually take part in exercise to try something new.

“These sessions are a great opportunity for residents to see the benefits of sport and fitness and how regular exercise can help them lead happy and healthy lives.”
