A LEAGUE of Distinguished Gentlemen will be riding through Chester and the surrounding area to raise money for a range of men’s health charity.

On Sunday (September 30) men and women across the world will be astride their vintage motorbikes, dressed in their most dapper outfits, to ride with the purpose of raising money to support prostate, suicide and other health charities.

In Chester, about 150 riders taking part in the Distinguished Gentleman's Ride (DGR) will depart from Bill Smith Motors Ltd on Tarvin Road at 11am on Sunday.

They will ride to The Ice Cream Farm in Tattenhall before returning to regroup at Bill Smith Motors.

They will then ride to the Fountains Roundabout, ride past Chester Cathedral and The Chester Grosvenor Hotel, beneath the Eastgate Clock, before stopping at Hickory’s Smokehouse at the River Dee.

Finally, they will go to Chester Racecourse for food and drinks.

One of the organisers of the Chester ride, Kate Smith, said the event was getting bigger and better each year.

She reminded riders that riders are asked to raise at least £50.

It anticipated that more than 90,000 riders will take part, with the event particularly popular in Australia where it was founded by Mark Hawwa.

The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride website says: “Our focus is on gentlemen who have been dealt a tough hand in life.

“In particular, we raise funds for research into prostate cancer, and mental health and suicide prevention programs, as part of our mission to support men’s health globally.

“These funds are invested by our partners, the Movember Foundation, who are the world’s largest men’s health organisation.”
