AN ART gallery in Chester is hosting a family-friendly ‘meet the artist’ event next Saturday.

The exhibition is a celebration of the work of Leigh Lambert, whose striking pieces contrast black and white backgrounds with colourful scenes of childhood.

Featuring music, food and drink, it will take place in and around the Watergate Street Gallery between noon and 4pm on September 22.

Neighbours Kuckoo will be serving cocktails with fizz, nibbles and sweets for the children also available.

Gallery owner Alex Sharp said: “Having held several ‘meet the artist’ exhibitions over the past decade, we are thrilled to announce that this September Leigh Lambert will be exhibiting here, giving our clients the opportunity to meet and chat with him.

“There will be the unveiling of new limited editions and rare original paintings and also the opportunity to arrange your own personalised commission.

“With music, food and drinks, we look forward to welcoming you. Please don't forget to register your attendance as ticket numbers are strictly limited!”

Born in Newcastle upon Tyne in 1979, it is his father’s stories of growing up there in the 1950s that caught Leigh’s imagination and inspired his artistic re-creation of those stories.

Leigh's paintings contrast bleak neighbourhoods dominated by heavy industry with the colour of a happy childhood.

Alex said: “It is no surprise that Leigh continues to be one of the most successful and sought-after contemporary artists in the country. A continued Watergate Street Gallery favourite, we are truly privileged to have been able to show Leigh’s work here throughout his career.”
