PUPILS at The Whitby High School have been congratulated on their impressive GCSE results.

Results across the school remained high with increased attainment grades in many subjects compared to the 2017 results, school leaders said.

Students passing English and mathematics has risen by four per centage points as has the number of students achieving the EBacc qualification.

Headteacher Bryn Heeley said: “I am extremely pleased with the results gained by our students particularly as so many subjects have now moved to the 1 - 9 grading system designed in increase the difficulty and rigour within examinations.

He added: “The continued focus on the needs of the students at an individual level has continued to be successful and improve the life chances of our young people.

“Students and staff have worked extremely hard and should celebrate their successes – well done”.

Students who did particularly well were:

• David Chattle who achieved four Grade 9s, two Grade 8s, a Grade 6 an A*, A, Distinction * and a Distinction.

• Heather Beeston who achieved one Grade 9, six Grade 8s, two Grade 7s, an A*, A and a Distinction.

• Owen Gittins who achieved three Grade 9s, three Grade 8s, three Grade 7s, 2A*, and a B

• George Artell-Cram achieved four Grade 9s, two Grade 8s, one Grade 6, one Grade 5, an A*, an A and a Distinction*.

• Thomas Maddox achieved two Grade 9s, two Grade 8s, four Grade 7s an A, a Distinction and a Distinction *.

• Jack Rogers who achieved four Grade 9s, two Grade 8s, two Grade 6s, an A* and two A grades.

• Aaron McGinn who achieved one Grade 9, two Grade 8s, three Grade 7s, three Grade 6s and an A Grade.

• Megan Clough who achieved one Grade 9, two Grade 8s, three Grade 7s, two Grade 6s, an A* and an A Grade.

• Samuel Bartley who achieved two Grade 8s, five Grades 5s, a Grade 6, an A*, an A and a Distinction*.
