A WIRRAL psychiatric nurse appeared on Channel 4's 24 Hours in A&E after she was attacked by a patient and left with severe burns on her body.

In Wednesday's episode, Christie, 25, a mental health nurse at Princess Royal University Hospital was taken to St George's Hospital with severe burns after a patient threw boiling hot water over her.

She was left with severe burns and blisters on her head, neck and chest.

Her boyfriend Nathan was at work when he received a phone call from a nurse off Christie's phone who told him she was in a 'bad way' and that she was being taken to hospital.

Nathan then contacted Christie's mum Karen to tell her that she had been attacked by a patient.

She said: "I couldn't get my head around why someone would want to do this.

"You feel sick and want to cry, you just fear the worst."

Christie was then transferred to Chelsea and Westminster Hospital's burn unit where she received treatment to the blisters and burns.

Despite the injuries she suffered, Christie was able to return to work after receiving treatment.

At the end of the programme Christie said: "I'm definitely a lot more cautious at work, i'm cautious opening doors, cautious if someone's behind me so it has affected my work.

"I don't know what i'd do if I didn't go to work. I enjoy it too much not to go."
