A BODY recovered from the River Dee in Chester last month is that of a 71-year-old man, it has been confirmed.

But little else is known about his identity or the circumstances of his death, which was being treated as “unexplained” by Cheshire Police at the time.

Officers responded to reports that a body had been seen in the water near Sandy Lane at around 3.20pm on Wednesday, June 20.

Almost three weeks on from the discovery, police will only confirm the man’s age and that their investigation has been completed.

A spokesman said: “A full investigation has now taken place and a file has been passed to the coroner.”

This would indicate police do not believe there were any suspicious circumstances, although this has not been confirmed.

An inquest will now take place to determine how the man died.
