A TEENAGE woman suffered serious injuries after falling from a bridge in a Chester suburb.

The woman, who is 19, fell from the railway bridge over Mill Lane, Upton, at about 6.30pm on Friday, April 13.

It was the second time in the space of a few hours that officers from Cheshire Police had responded to calls concerning the welfare of a woman on the bridge.

A spokesman for the force said: "Police attended the scene and tried to speak to the woman.

“Shortly after their arrival, and despite the efforts of those in attendance, the woman fell from the bridge. She sustained serious injuries and is currently in Aintree Hospital receiving treatment.”

Police had first been called to the scene at 2.52pm when a road and rail closure was temporarily put in place. Officers spoke with the woman and at 3.23pm she came down off the bridge. The road and rail closures were then lifted.

The woman was detained under the Mental Health Act and taken to the Countess of Chester Hospital to be assessed.

It is believed that the same woman was involved in both incidents.

The Countess of Chester Hospital has been approached for a comment.
