VOLUNTEERS who support people were thanked for their good work at an event at Chester Racecourse.

Over 200 people attended the event which gave them with the opportunity to try taster sessions from 'bird box making' and 'knit and natter' to 'create a song in seconds'.

The event, which was organised and hosted by a partnership group comprising Cheshire West and Chester Council, Chester Voluntary Action, Brightlife and Vivo, was entertained by Chester Rock Choir and Chester Training Band.

Speaking at the event, the Lord Mayor of Chester, Cllr Razia Daniels, said: “It is amazing to think that in our everyday lives there are volunteers all around us – volunteers quite simply support us in everything – whether you know it or not – volunteers help shape all our lives and I would like to simply say thank you to all the volunteers."

Cllr Louise Gittins, cabinet member for communities and wellbeing, also thanked the volunteers for the important role they play in people’s lives. She said: “I personally want to thank each and every one of you for the volunteering hours you give and for the massive contribution you make to the people and causes you support.”

Dan Batten, a volunteer for Chester Aid to the Homeless also spoke at the event and discussed the power of volunteering and the positive impact it has had on his life.
