TRAVELLERS have set up camp on the outskirts of Ellesmere Port.
A large number of caravans and vehicles descended on a field off the A5032 Whitby Lane, close to the Strawberry roundabout on Saturday.
Police were called out just after noon and spoke to the owner of the land and also the travellers.
A Cheshire Police spokesman confirmed the travellers are on private land.
This means any steps taken to remove them would be a civil matter which would have to go through the courts so an eviction notice – if required – could be served.
The landowners were advised by police of the action they could take on Saturday, the spokesman added.
There were still caravans and vehicles on the field on Tuesday, though many had left.
