STEVE BURR says he won’t mind going into the last game of the season knowing Chester might need something from it to safegaurd their place in the Conference Premier League.

Chester have four games left this season - kicking off with a tough trip to play-off chasing Grimsby Town tomorrow.

They face arch rivals Wrexham in a high noon showdown on Easter Saturday, an away game at second-placed Cambridge United before what could end up as a nail-biting finale at home to Sailsbury on April 26.

Blues boss Burr is adopting the ‘one game at a time’ approach in the run-in but said: “From where we were when I first joined the club, I’d have taken going into the last game of the season knowing we needed a result.

“And I’d still take that if that’s what it takes to keep us up.

“It would be nice to have it all sorted by then but first we’ve got to concentrate on Grimsby.”

Saturday’s edgy 3-2 home win over rock-bottom Hyde boosted the Blues chances of beating the drop but midweek results went against them with Hereford and Aldershot both winning while a draw for Southport took them above the Blues.

“It’s up to us,” was Burr’s reaction to the results in midweek. “I said last week we need three wins from five and I think another two more will do.

“It’s five from two now to go down and we know what we have to do.

“The lads are very positive and they know how big the game is this weekend.

“As Hyde proved last week, there are no easy games in this league. Results have proved that all season.

“I keep talking about consistency and that’s what we need in our last four games.

“I don’t like using the must-win game line but that’s exactly what they are.”

Tomorrow’s opponents Grimsby are third in the table but last night’s trip to Dartford is bound to effect them so Blues fans can head to Blundell Park with plenty of optimism.

The man they must stop is in-form winger Alex Rodman, who his manager Paul Hurst has described a  “a handful.”

“Alex has got the ability – there’s no doubt about that,” said Hurst. “At this moment, he’s having a good run.

“There have perhaps been moments when it hasn’t quite worked for him, but if he can sustain the form he’s currently in until the end of the season then that would be a real positive for us.

“We’ve had a chat about his game and spoken about the times when to stay wide and isolate the full-back.

“He’s a very, very talented player and can beat players with a bit of skill, but he does also have natural pace – if you’ve got those natural assets, then you’re going to be a handful.”

Rodman will be up against another new-look Blues back line.

Matty Brown is banned for three games after his dismissal against Hyde so loan signing Luke Ashworth could make his debut.

Paul Linwood and George Horan, who returned to training this week after ankle surgery, are also in the squad although there is a worry over top scorer Gareth Seddon, who fears he may have broken his big toe.

James Caton, another loan signing, trained this week after a hamstring strain and he could make it onto the bench.

Tamworth, who are virtually down and out, could do Chester a massive favour by winning at Southport tomorrow.

Dartford host Forest Green, Hereford also have home advantage over Gateshead and Aldershot welcome Salisbury.
