FANS have slammed vandals who daubed graffiti at The Racecourse ahead of tomorrow’s big football derby.

Large block letters spelling ‘CFC’ were painted in white on engraved bricks bought by fans on the outside of the Mold Road Stand, many of them dedicated to the memory of loved ones.

The same letters also appeared on the side of a building on Ruthin Road near Bellevue Park.

Wrexham FC fans who own bricks on the stand have expressed their anger.

Wrexham fan Gwyneth Jones, who bought one of the bricks with members of her family, said: “I think it’s disgusting. It’s not just graffiti; it’s disrespectful.

“It could cause more trouble ahead of the game.”

On Wrexham FC fan site Red Passion ‘ryans the man’ said: “Bang out of order if they have done this. No respect to the people who donated money towards the stand in memory of loved ones.”

A Glyndwr University spokesman said the graffiti was discovered yesterday after it had been painted overnight.

The spokesman added: “It’s now been removed by our maintenance team.”

Chester FC chairman Tony Durkin condemned those responsible.

He said: “The board of Chester Football Club are saddened to hear that football graffiti relating to Chester FC has been painted on the stadium wall at Wrexham FC’s Racecourse ground.

“This sort of action only serves to inflame feelings ahead of Saturday’s game. This is extremely distasteful and unhelpful.”

Wrexham FC chairman Don Bircham said: “I’m sure the board of Chester FC is as disappointed as we are. The relationship between the two clubs is excellent, especially as we are both now fan-owned clubs.

“We’re very much focused on the football and we hope that’s the big talking point on the day.”
