CHESTER FC's close season dealing continue apace with the confirmation that defender Matty Thomson and midfielder Iwan Murray have agreed contract extensions to stay with the club for the 2019-20 campaign.

Thomson, 19, is a product of the Chester FC Youth setup, and made his senior debut in April 2018 before signing a deal last summer and making 15 appearances during the 2018/19 season

Joint manager, Anthony Johnson, said: “Matty has had a fantastic first season and probably been involved with the squad more than we all anticipated.

“That is down to him and his relentless work rate to want to keep getting better. We look forward to working with him with the extra contact hours the new hybrid model provides.”

Also confirming a new one-year deal at the Swansway Chester Stadium, is 18-year-old attacking midfielder Iwan Murray who is another graduate from the Chester FC Youth Academy.

Murray, from Bodelwyddan, scored three goals during 2018/19: a goal of the season contender at Ashton United in the National League North, as well as strikes away at Winsford in the Cheshire Senior Cup and against City of Liverpool in the Emirates FA Cup.

Speaking to ChesterFC.com on the announcement, Johnson added: “Iwan is another player we felt would benefit from staying around the first team squad to aid his development.

“His intelligence, clever movement and eye for a goal are some of the reasons he has the potential to go far in the game. We’re delighted to be working with him for another year.”
