NEIL YOUNG believes Chester have the best two men for the job in charge.

Former Blues boss Young, who led the reformed club to the National League, returned briefly to The Deva last season in an off-the-field capacity before ex-Salford City duo Anthony Johnson and Bernard Morley were brought in to take charge.

“I went into Chester at the end of last year to help them but not on the pitch - it was more to have a look at the finances off the pith and see why they were struggling and how to take the club forward,” said Young, now boss at Marine.

“They were keen to stay full time with a younger model of manager and I advocated that they go part time with the best part time manager they could get. I came away because I didn’t think that would be happening.

“Obviously when they spoke to the two lads who are there now they’ve told them the same and now they have a fantastic management team with a great track record. It’s a club that is very close to my heart and I’ve done a lot of work there with some very good people - the volunteers and supporters there are unbelievable.

“I don’t know the two lads except to say hello but to be fifth in the league is good - I know what they went into with contracts and trying to free up the budget and to try and bring their own players in.

“It’s a very difficult balancing act but they’ve changed a few bits and bobs around and gone on a good unbeaten run which is fantastic.

“Hopefully, they can cement a place in the play offs, and get promoted.”

The Blues were finally back in action last night for their first game since getting knocked out of the FA Cup at Dunston two weeks ago.

Taking on Witton Albion in the Cheshire Senior Cup, it was the visitors’ Billy Smart who stunned a virtually full-strength home side with a seventh minute opener.

But the Blues were level seven minutes later through Craig Mahon although they had to wait until five minutes from time to seal a 2-1 win as captain Gary Roberts slotted home from the spot
