Paul Butler is gearing up for the biggest night of his professional career when he bids to land a second world title on Saturday in London.

The Ellesmere Port boxer, known in the sport as the ‘Baby Faced Assassin’, takes on Puerto Rico’s Emmanuel Rodriguez for the vacant IBF world bantamweight belt at the 02 Arena, on the undercard for the huge heavyweight rematch between Tony Bellew and David Haye.

The Chester-born fighter, who is also player/manager of Sutton Athletic in the Chester and Wirral League, believes he has found ‘flaws’ in his opponent’s style, and is backing himself to end Rodriguez’s unbeaten record which currently stands at 17-0.

“You watch him, and you think he’s a special kid him,” Butler said, speaking to Matchroom Boxing.

“But you go through his fights, go through his mistakes, there’s loads I’ve picked up on.

“Even watching him just now in the warm-up, he goes to his left nearly every time, takes a step to the right and then goes back to the left, he’s uncomfortable just going to his right.

“We’ve both got pretty similar styles. We both love a left hook to the body, we look to go head to the body. He’s got a jab, but once you take the jab away from him there’s not much there although that left-hook is dangerous. We’ve looked at that and we’re working on it.”

Butler admits he’ll have to be on his game right from the first bell on Saturday evening, but maintains he can add to his first world title victory and improve his current record of 26-1.

“I feel good, sharp and ready to go,” the 29-year-old continued.

“It’s a massive bill and the whole reason I came over to Eddie Hearn is for nights like this one.

“It will be a tough fight but the more I see of him the more I think he’s got his flaws. I’m going to have to be switched on for 12 rounds, but I can take this fight.

“I fancy the job and I believe I can do the job and if I can come through as champion, I’ll take them all on.”
