A SPECIAL celebration has taken place to mark the official opening of a junior cricket net facility at Tattenhall Cricket Club.
Fundraising from club members was supplemented by grants from the English Cricket Board and the Lord’s Taverners. Cheshire Cricket Board guidance was received and a contribution was made by Broxton councillors Mike Jones, Neil Ritchie and Ann Wright from their members’ budget fund.
“The club is a Centre of Excellence for cricket in the rural area, with more than a hundred junior members,” said Cllr Jones.
“We three local councillors all agreed to support Tattenhall Cricket Club because of the good work it does in our local area.”
Cllr Wright said: “I had no hesitation in helping the club. There are so many good reasons to support it, amongst which, helping our young people become fit and healthy is just one.”
Tattenhall Cricket Club is the senior club in the Broxton area, playing in the Cheshire County League.
Club members are aged between seven and 18 with five junior teams supported by 10 qualified ECB coaches.
Cricket club chairman Mel Dobson said: “We are grateful for the support and enthusiasm of Councillors Jones, Ritchie and Wright toward our new cricket net facility.”
