Chester defender James Jones is looking to put himself in the Football League shop window in Jamie Vardy's V9 Academy.

The 19-year-old, who made 14 appearances for the Blues last season having graduated from Chester's academy, will be one of a number of non-league footballers looking to impress at the V9 Academy trials at Manchester City's Etihad Campus.

The trials, designed to help unearth gems in the non-league pyramid, will be funded for the second year running by Leicester City and England striker Vardy, who began his career with Stocksbridge Park Steels before climbing the ladder to become a Premier League winner and play Champions League football.

Jones, along with fellow Blues teenager Tom Crawford, has been offered a new deal for next season at the Deva but the duo are both understood to be considering their options following interest from some top clubs including West Brom.

The V9 Academy, which will be watched by a host of Premier League scouts, was attended last summer by former Chester and Wrexham winger Elliott Durrell, who was subsequently signed up by Macclesfield Town and helped them win the National League this season.

Cefn Druids' Alec Mudimi and TNS's Ryan Pryce will also be attending the trials.
