ROYAL CHESTER Rowing Club Junior squad have returned home with a spectacular haul of medals from the Merseyside Regatta.
They emphasised the benefit of their winter ergo training which brought them an indoor world record.

Fourteen entries resulted in seven wins and a further three crews were beaten finalists.

The Junior 16 Quad scull of Calum McGuicken, Marcus Longmuir, Alex Binyon, Sam Jackson saw off Grange School and Merchant Taylors in the heats to take the final against Queens Park High School by one third of a length.

Sam and Marcus raced Merchant Taylors in first race of Junior 16 double scull and won by two lengths.

But they had a much tighter race in the final against a Grange crew who had taken a lead off the start before the Royals crew caught and overtook them before the line.

A Novice Quad of George Lowrie, Danny Gilham, Tom Dodd and Luke Barrett won a straight final against Liverpool Victoria with ease.

And the Novice pair of Calum McGuicken and Tom Dodd had a comfortable win over Liverpool Vics despite the difficult conditions.

In their first ever regatta the girls J13 coxed quad of Emily Axelsson, Imogen Arnott, Amy Fields, Hannah Sweeney, Tamara Houghton (cox) beat two crews from Warrington to achieve their first win for Royal Chester RC.

Junior 14 sculler Hugo Norris won two heats and his final, and Jack McGarva, the next generation of McGarvas racing for Royals, won his Junior 13 sculls event. Matty Prescott had a good first race in a single scull but was narrowly beaten; and Other crews put in excellent performances against stiff opposition.
