Matt Jansen has resigned as manager of Chorley and been replaced by assistant manager Jamie Vermiglio.

Jansen leaves the National League North outfit after three years in charge and it ends his eight-year association with the club which saw him serve as manager, assistant manager and player.

The 40-year-old has twice led the Magpies to the play-offs, as well as an eighth-placed finish in his first season in charge.

In 2017/18, they were beaten 2-1 by Harrogate Town who would eventually go on to secure promotion, while he also guided the club to the FA Cup first round where they were beaten by Fleetwood Town.

Jansen wished the club 'every success' for the club, with no reason given for his decision.

He said: “I have thoroughly enjoyed all the years I’ve spent at Chorley FC,” Jansen told chorleyfc.com.

“I am sure the club will go from strength to strength with the squad that has been assembled for the new 2018/19 season and wish the team every success in the years ahead.”

A club statement added: "This morning, with regret, we have accepted Matt Jansen’s resignation as manager of Chorley Football Club with immediate effect.

"We would like to put on record our appreciation for all that Matt has achieved in eight years of service as player, coach and manager and wish him all the best for the future."

Jansen was a favourite at Blackburn Rovers during his seven years at Ewood Park in which he scored 57 times, scoring the goal which clinched promotion back to the Premier League in 2001.

Vermiglio, 36, was forced to retire as a player three years ago and has since been Jansen’s assistant.

Vermiglio said: “It’s no secret I’ve commitments elsewhere being a head teacher, but at the same time I’ll give everything to the job. It is a part-time role, with a full-time expectation and is something I’m going to relish.

AFC Fylde boss Dave Challinor has signed a new contract with the club until June 2021.

The 42-year-old former Tranmere Rovers defender has agreed a three-year deal until June 2021, having guided the Coasters to the play-offs last season.

Challinor joined from Colwyn Bay in 2011 and has overseen three promotions for the Lancashire outfit.

"For the club to have the faith and belief in me being the man to take the club onto the next level is very flattering," he told Fylde’s official website.

"There was only a year left on my existing deal and there was always a plan to have another discussion after a season in the National League.

Fylde have followed up that decision by breaking their transfer record to sign Kidderminster Harriers captain Ryan Croasdale for £50,000.

The midfielder, 23, has penned a three-year contract.

Dover Athletic have signalled their intent for the new season with the arrival of Inih Effiong from Ross County.

The 27-year-old scored eight times in 28 appearances for Woking last season, which earned him a move north of the border.

Kadell Daniel and first-team coach Mark Newson have also agreed new terms at Dover.

Former Chester striker James Akintunde has signed a one-year deal with Maidenhead.

Akintunde scored eight goals for the Blues last season but couldn’t prevent their relegation from the National League.

Gateshead have begun to build a new squad for next season with the arrival of Middlesbrough midfielder Robbie Tinkler on a one-year deal.

Former Chester goalkeeper Nathan Vaughan has returned to Solihull Moors as goalkeeping coach, where he will link up with newly-appointed head coach Tim Flowers.
