SOPHIE ECCLESTONE has been named in England Women's squad for the first two One-Day Internationals of the summer.

The Chester-born spinner is one of 14 players selected by head coach Mark Robinson for matches against South Africa at Worcestershire and Hove.

Ecclestone, 19, tweeted: "Can’t wait to get back with the squad this summer."

Lancashire Thunder ace Ecclestone, who also plays club cricket for Alvanley, is joined in the squad by Katherine Brunt, Georgia Elwiss, Laura Marsh, Sarah Taylor and Lauren Winfield, the quintet returning after missing the tour to India.

There’s no room in the squad, which will be captained by Heather Knight, for World Cup winners Fran Wilson or Alex Hartley.

Robinson said: “It should be a really exciting summer against two of the best teams in the world.

“South Africa are an up and coming team with some really dangerous players. They pushed us close the last time we met them and we will have to be at our best to beat them.”
