A WOMAN has appeared in court charged with causing the death by careless driving of a biker who died while delivering Easter eggs to children.

Chelsea Jones, 28, of Wensleydale Avenue, Eastham, Wirral, gave no indication of plea at Chester Magistrates Court this morning.

She is accused of causing the death of Kevin Burnell on the A550 Welsh Road near Ellesmere Port on April 2 last year.

The court heard that Mr Burnell’s motorbike collided with the rear of Jones’ VW Golf after she pulled out of a junction.

The case was deemed too serious to be dealt with in the lower courts and was committed to Chester Crown Court for a plea and trial preparation hearing on May 4.

In the meantime, Jones was released on unconditional bail.

Tributes flooded in for Mr Burnell, known as Burnie, following his death.

At the time, Mr Burnell’s sister Gemma wrote on a JustGiving fundraising page: “So today our hearts were broken and my brother was taken from us. He died happy and doing what he absolutely loved the most and what he lived for.”

Mr Burnell had joined thousands of other motorcyclists for the Wirral Egg Run ride out from New Brighton to Claremont Farm.

The annual event raises cash for local charities and collects Easter eggs for local, underprivileged children.
