YOUNG bookworms are enjoying the new literacy mill at their primary school.

The literacy mill at Willaston CE Primary School will primarily provide a book swap team to enable to youngsters to have access to as wide a range of books as possible.

But it will also provide a place for children to read - or they can take their favourite book to read in the playground at break time.

Built by Jim Rumble, the literacy mill is the result of fundraising by the school's PTA.

It was officially opened by two visiting authors, Andrew Glennon and Shaun Millea.

Andrew ran a workshop for the children in years 5 and 6, introducing his book The Loneliest Robot.

Meanwhile, Shaun read his book Arthur Bea has a Secret to the younger children in reception class and years 1 and 2.

Both were hailed a success by staff and pupils, as well as several parents who came to the official opening.

Comments included "what an amazing resource this is for our children", "it makes you want to go and read", what an exciting, unique and engaging area - how lucky our children are".
