A GROUP of pupils from Neston High School have won an award for raising awareness mental health issues.
Having applied and been selected to become ‘Mental Health First Aiders’, eight year 12 students successfully completed a two day training programme lead by CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services).
Since completing the training they have offered drop in sessions to students during lunch breaks and have led assemblies and parent information evenings on the subject.
They were nominated for the West Cheshire Youth and Community Awards 2018 and along with teachers and parents were invited to attend the award ceremony at the Forest Hills Hotel in Frodsham.
They then discovered they had won the Mental Health and Wellbeing Project award.
A school spokesman said: “It was a humbling evening with children and adults from across the county who has taken part in outstanding projects and service to their communities and we were delighted that our students were the winners of the Mental Health and Wellbeing Project.
“The Mental Health First Aid students won the award because the council wanted to hear from a project that has listened to the needs of young people, working innovatively and creatively to support emotional health and wellbeing.
“Mrs Lacey, assistant headteacher passed on her congratulations to all eight sixth form students for their outstanding work.”
