A MAN with mental health problems lost his temper after a few drinks and caused damage at his mother’s home.

Mark Spencer, 33, kicked the garden gate, kicked the door of her car, and damaged window blinds during the incident on April 18.

Spencer of Fairfield Road in Broughton, admitted a damage charge at the house in Main Road, Broughton and in the circumstances was fined £120 with £85 costs and a £30 surcharge.

Magistrates said he was getting a lot of support in the community and they would treat it as an isolated incident.

Prosecutor James Neary told Flintshire Magistrates Court that Spencer’s mother, Lynne Wescombe, was having a cup of tea in the garden after returning home from work when he approached and she would immediate see that he was “hyper”.

She suspected he had taken alcohol and had not taken his medication.

He became more and more agitated, raised his voice and as he left he caused the damage.

She dialled the police when she heard banging and remained in the house until officers arrived.

Interviewed, he said he had a few drinks and got angry when she would not take him to the supermarket, saying she had already taken him shopping.

When asked to leave he became agitated.

Solicitor Nick Cross, defending, said the damage had been caused recklessly in the heat of the moment.

No threats had been made and he had shown genuine remorse.

Spencer, said Mr Cross, had not been in trouble for many years.

He said his client was clearly a vulnerable person who at the time had been harassed in the community by people who had been constantly banging on his door, which had been very stressful for him.

He had been drinking the night before but denied he had been drinking that day.

The Mold court heard Spencer had learning difficulties and psychosis, suffered anxiety and schizophrenia and was paranoid.

He was supported by the community mental health team.

Mr Cross said his mother had already been compensated.
