CITY cocktail bar Red Door, based on St John Street, is the latest business to support the #StrawFreeChester campaign by ditching all of their single use plastic drinking straws.

The campaign, launched by lecturer Dr Christian Dunn, is the first of its kind and aims to see Chester crowned as the very first straw-free city.

The campaign’s message hopes to convince both businesses and residents of the city to stop using plastic straws in a bid to be more environmentally friendly.

Dr Dunn said: “It’s fantastic that Red Door are supporting #StrawFreeChester by ditching single-use plastic drinking straws.

"For most people these are really unnecessary bits of plastic that are just going to hang around our planet for hundreds of years once they’ve been thrown away.

"The plastic waste issue has been described as an environmental disaster and we all now need to start thinking differently about the plastics we use – so it’s great that Red Door is doing its bit and helping lead the way!”

Although Red Door will no longer be serving cocktails with a straw, biodegradable paper straws are available upon request from the bar.
