A subway around a Chester city centre roundabout was cordoned off on Bank Holiday Monday following a report of a sexual assault.

Police officers were seen at the cordon off Brook Street, with a cordon in place at the St Oswald's Way Roundabout, aka Chester Supertrees Roundabout.

Police are now appealing for information in relation to the incident, having arrested a 24-year-old man.

A Cheshire Police spokesperson said: "At around 12.40am on Monday 6 May, north Wales Police contacted to report a sexual assault in Chester.

"The incident is reported to have occurred at around 5pm on Sunday 5 May in a subway on Brook Street.

"Enquiries are in their early stages and officers are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

"A 24-year-old man has been arrested as part of the investigation and a police cordon was put in place while officers dealt with the scene.

"Anyone with information or video footage that may assist the investigation should contact police on 101 or via the website, quoting IML 1816526."
