CHESTER diving sensation Yasmin Harper could be celebrating a birthday she will never forget during an Olympic debut at Paris 2024.

The 3m synchro talent turns 24 the day after the event’s final with Harper and pairs partner Scarlett Mew Jensen gunning for a medal.

The inseparable duo enter the Games as back-to-back world medallists after their partnership sprung out of Harper stepping in for Mew Jensen’s injured teammate, Desharne Bent-Ashmeil, at the Diving World Cup in China last year.

Harper and Mew Jensen are one of four formidable synchro pairs who are among the first divers of Team GB’s squad to be selected for Paris 2024 as Harper revelled in their rapid rise.

She said: “If we end up with a medal, that would be the best birthday present I could ever ask for.

“I was coming into that World Cup in China and the day before, I was stood there thinking, ‘I’ve got a chance here to get in and prove that I can be her partner’.

“After winning gold in China, for the team to believe in us as a British partnership at the World Championships in Fukuoka was great and I feel like we seized the opportunity.

“We went into that World Championships complete rookies, we’d not been training together long at all and we went in there and won a silver medal.

“I think it’s going to be overwhelming but I’m so pleased I get this chance to go and be part of such an amazing team.

“We’re steadying and getting ready to build for the main event but when we get to a month out, that’s what we want and what we’re aiming for, that’s what we’re about.”

Through ups and downs, the 3m synchro pair’s unwavering support for each other continues to propel them to new heights on the board.

Aldi has supported Harper, Mew Jensen and their fellow athletes since 2015 as the Official Supermarket of Team GB. Already one of Team GB’s longest-serving partners, this partnership has now been extended to 17 years until 2032, reaffirming Aldi’s multi-million-pound investment in both Team GB and its athletes.

Mew Jensen said: “It’s a great opportunity for both of us and we didn’t think that we’d get it so it’s finally here and we can say it now which is crazy.

“It does feel a bit like it’s fate that it’s happened, we’ve formed and excelled, it’s not been this chugging training journey, it’s been this immediate thing.”

Fellow synchro divers Andrea Spendolini-Sirieix and Lois Toulson made history last year when the pair became the first British divers to win a World Championship medal in a women's event.

Mew Jensen and Harper, who could win Team GB's first medal in Paris, quickly followed with their silver in Japan as Team GB showcases two women’s synchro pairs stronger than any to have been fielded before.

Mew Jensen added: “If we can go out the first event and show who we are then that’s what we will be proud of.”

Aldi are proud Official Partners of Team GB & ParalympicsGB, supporting all athletes through to Paris 2024.
