OLLIE PALMER hasn't scored as many goals as he'd have liked but the striker feels he has played his part in Wrexham's promotion winning campaign.

The Reds thrashed Forest Green Rovers 6-0 at home 10 days ago to secure a top-three finish in League Two with two games to go.

Phil Parkinson's men picked up where they left off on Saturday by beating play-off contenders Crewe Alexandra 3-0 at Gresty Road with Palmer opening the scoring with a header from strike partner Paul Mullin's cross.

That was his seventh goal of the season and first since he netted in the 3-0 FA Cup second round win against Yeovil on December 3, with his last league strike coming in the 2-0 victory over Gillingham on November 11.

Parkinson has often his attackers but Palmer has started the last three matches and the 32-year-old is pleased with his contribution.

"Obviously I have not scored since coming back from my injury and waiting to get my shirt back in the team," said Palmer.

"I feel like since getting back in the team, we have picked up a lot of points and my role may have changed a little bit.

"We have joked a little bit in the dressing room about being a defensive nine; we've had a laugh about that but I know it's appreciated.

"I have developed into the role which is something I am really proud of, and it has benefitted the team which is the most important thing.

"It is not about individuals in that dressing room and I have not been worried about scoring goals because we have been winning games of football.

"The main thing is getting the points on the board and we've done that for the last few months.

"It's taken a big effort from the whole squad and the staff, and not just the players that have been playing.

"Obviously you want to score goals as a centre-forward and it's not quite happened but everyone goes through droughts at the end of the day.

"But the performances have been there from everybody and the wins, and that is the most important thing. To get back-to-back promotions is an incredible achievement."

Palmer, who helped Wrexham clinch the National League title following a record-breaking 2022-23 campaign, repaid the favour for Mullin by setting up the Reds' leading scorer for his 26th goal of the season to make it 2-0.

"I feel like me and Mulls have done that since we started playing together so that's good," said Palmer.

"I think I have played 100 games, Mulls has played more because he signed earlier, but a lot of my games have been with Mulls and it's been great to play up top together.

"We know each other. It's not something we work on, it just seems to happen but we have played a lot of games together and we understand each other on the pitch."
