PROMOTION was already secured and there was no let-up from Wrexham who won 3-0 against play-off contenders Crewe Alexandra at Gresty Road.

Phil Parkinson's men were guaranteed a top-three finish in League with two games to go after thrashing Forest Green Rovers 6-0 the previous weekend.

Wrexham are battling it out with Mansfield Town for runners-up spot behind champions Stockport County and the in-form Reds kept their hopes alive by registering a fourth successive win as Crewe finished the game with 10 men.

Ollie Palmer and Paul Mullin, with his 26th goal of the season, had the Reds deservedly 2-0 up at the break and Andy Cannon got in on the act in the second period, with Wrexham producing an excellent performance as the travelling fans continued the promotion celebrations.

The Reds host Stockport in the final game of the season at The Racecourse next Saturday.

Parkinson made one change from the side that started the win against Forest Green Rovers which secured automatic promotion.

Captain Luke Young came into midfield in place of George Evans who was missing with a calf injury.

Just 20 seconds had gone when Crewe had the first sight of goal with Aaron Rowe's shot comfortably saved by Reds' goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo.

Crewe continued their bright start without creating any chances while Wrexham's first opportunity came when Eoghan O'Connell headed over the bar from Luke Young's free-kick.

However, Wrexham took the lead in the 24th minute.

Mullin sent in a cross from the right and Palmer found the back of the net with a flicked header.

Wrexham were enjoying a decent spell, defending superbly and getting into some superb positions when they attacked.

Palmer's volley from outside the area saved by keeper Max Stryjek but the Reds made it 2-0 in the first minute of injury time.

Mullin raced onto Palmer's flick-on from Tom O'Connor's free-kick and he lifted the ball over Styjek to double Wrexham's advantage at the interval.

Crewe had a chance at the start of the second half when Okonkwo made a smart save to deny Elliot Nevitt who capitalised on substitute Callum McFadzean's mistake.

Wrexham countered and came close when Elliot Lee's low drive was turned around the post by Stryjek.

Lee's header from Ryan Barnett's cross was well held by Stryjek but Crewe were given a mountain to climb on 54 minutes when last-man Ryan Cooney was shown a straight red for handling the ball when he was challenged by Mullin, sent off for denying a goalscoring opportunity.

Wrexham took advantage by going 3-0 up in the 61st minute.

Lee picked out Cannon who side-stepped a defender before slotting past Stryjek.

Substitute Steven Fletcher brought a save out of Stryjek while Shilow Finney headed narrowly over the bar at the other end.

Wrexham continued to press and substitute Jack Marriott fired wide for Wrexham while Fletcher's volley was turned around post by Stryjek and Tom O'Connor came close in added time, but the Reds ran out convincing winners.
