Chester butcher’s bangers prove to be a hit with the judges

A Chester butcher’s shop has been on a winning streak in March, winning no less than 26 awards. 

SJ Bebbington Butchers, on Five Ashes Road, Westminster Park, entered a variety of regional and national competitions in March and walked away with a score of awards for their fresh produce.

The streak began at the British Pie Awards in Melton Mowbray. Bebbington entered some pies for the first time and were awarded silver for their chicken, bacon and leek pie and also the ‘shepherd’s pie pie’ an original speciality pie. 

Their next award came at the National Federation of Meat & Food Traders at their annual barbecue competition.

This national competition was well attended by some of the country’s best butchers and Westminster Park won gold with their classic steak burger and the new steak, stilton and caramelised onion burger.

Their new Spanish koftas and Capetown koftas were awarded silver along with their honey and mustard pork sausages. 

But their most successful competition was at the Wales and Cheshire awards for excellence in meat where they were awarded 12 golds and three silvers.

The awards were given for a wide variety of products, including home-made pies, burgers, sausages and freshly prepared ready meals. 

Team member and expert sausage maker Elisha Francis also won some individual awards to round off the month. He entered a number of speciality sausages in the Young Sausage Maker category with his pork, cheese and chive, Welsh Dragon and pork, red chilli and lime all winning gold.
