A former RAF driver was caught driving while four times over the drink-drive limit.

Vinette Lindenburger, 54, of Crescent Road, Ellesmere Port, pleaded guilty at Chester Magistrates Court to driving while over the limit.

Rob Youds, prosecuting, told the court that at 9pm on March 5 Lindenburger called the police saying she had been assaulted.

Mr Youds said a short time later a member of the public called the police to report that Lindenburger had been drink driving.

The witness told police they had seen Lindenburger “staggering out of her car” on Marlborough Road and the witness had taken her keys off her as a result.

When police arrived Lindenburger gave different accounts of the alleged assault.

Police breathalysed her and she gave a reading of 142 microgammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath compared to the limit of 35mgs .

Adrian Evans, defending, told the court Lindenburger had previously been a driver in the RAF.

She had married an American airman and moved to the USA, working as a nurse, but the marriage had broken down and she moved back to Ellesmere Port.

Recently her mother had been diagnosed with dementia and she is her sole carer.

Mr Evans said that on March 5 Lindenburger had been cooking and drinking vodka and coke when she received a “panicked” call from her mother.

Mr Evans said she “thought the worst” and jumped into the car, without any thought, to go to her mother’s house.

He said she later called the police after her mother was said to have assaulted her.

A probation report described Lindenburger as “lonely” as she didn’t know many people in the area and was unable to find a permanent job.

Magistrates sentenced her to a 12 week prison sentence, suspended for two years. They also ordered she carry out a 20 day rehabilitation requirement with probation and disqualified her from driving for 36 months.

She was also ordered to pay prosecution costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £115.
