An 82-year-old woman has been spared jail after being convicted of causing death by careless driving.
Jean Blackmore, of Westfield Road, Runcorn, was given a suspended sentence at Chester Crown Court on Friday, November 4, after she was convicted of causing the death of 59-year-old William Baxter in Frodsham.
Blackmore was trying to turn out of Morrisons car park on the A56 in Frodsham at around 2.20pm on January 7. She started to cross the road but collided with a white Ford Fiesta which was, in turn, shunted across the road and collided with a bus stop across the road.
Mr Baxter was standing at the bus stop with his step son Adam Halsall when he was hit by the car and sustained a serious head injury.
He was flown to Aintree Hospital by air ambulance before later being moved to Walton but he died 17 days later from his injuries.
Blackmore was given a six month prison sentence suspended for 12 months and a five year driving ban.
