NHS bosses are staging an event for residents and families affected by cancer.

The West Cheshire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) is inviting people living with cancer, their friends, family and carers, to a free health and wellbeing event.

The event titled ‘Living Well With And Beyond Cancer’ has been developed by healthcare professionals from the CCG, Macmillan Cancer Information & Support Centre,  Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and Public Health England.

The purpose of the day is to provide those affected by cancer the opportunity to find out what support and facilities are available to them, to help them adjust to life with and beyond cancer.

Alison Lee, chief executive officer of NHS West Cheshire Clinical Commissioning Group, said: “The Living Well With And Beyond Cancer event has been arranged to provide local people, who have been affected by cancer, the chance to come together and find out what advice and support is available to them in West Cheshire.”

The day will include a series of short talks from healthcare professionals, information stands, advice on fitness including details of local walking groups, dietary advice, benefits information, smoking cessation, carers support and information about local support groups.

There’s the chance to speak with a clinical nurse specialising in cancer.

Dr Rachael Warner, GP cancer lead, said: “We want to make sure no one has to face cancer alone. We’re inviting people affected by cancer along to meet people who have similar experiences.

“Healthcare professionals will be on-hand to provide advice and support. We are encouraging people to bring along a family member, friend or carer.

“Our aim is to provide reassurance and help reduce anxiety and isolation amongst cancer patients, their family, friends and carers and raise awareness of the support available. Hopefully this will empower patients to move beyond their cancer diagnosis, confident in their ability to maintain the healthiest lifestyle possible.”

Living Well With And Beyond Cancer  takes place on Tuesday, September 16, from 1-4pm at the Civic Hall, Ellesmere Port.

The event is free to attend and light refreshments will be provided on the day.
