SCORES of superbike fans had the chance to meet their riding idols in an event at Chester.

Biking stars Shane Byrne and Chris Walker were just two of the big names in domestic racing at a meet-and-greet event at Chester Town Hall before this weekend’s Oulton Park round.

Fans from Cheshire and North Wales had the opportunity to meet with some of their racing heroes.

Rebecca Thomas, 19, and her mother Julia Meir - both of Connah’s Quay – went along especially to try and meet up with series leader ‘Shakey’ Byrne.

Rebecca said: “I absolutely love it and as soon as I heard the bikes and riders were coming to Chester I was determined to come along. I’m a big fan of Shakey and can’t wait to see him in action at Oulton Park. He really is unbelievably quick.”

Mum Julia added: “It’s great and the riders are so approachable. I feel like a bit of a teenager collecting autographs and pictures but we have had a great time.”

Luke Hine, 11, Louis Davies and Jacob Edwards, both 12, and all of Gwernaffield, near Mold, were thrilled to meet Chris Walker, who provided them with autographed photographs.

Shane Byrne said he had been glad to see large numbers of fans turn out for the event.

He said: “It’s really is nice to meet so many racing fans and answer their questions. Oulton Park is definitely a rider’s circuit and one we all enjoy racing at. It promises to be a very exciting weekend of high action and close racing.

“We have practice on Friday, qualifying on Saturday and a full race programme on Sunday. It’s a busy weekend and it’s going to be full on. It’s hugely popular and probably attracts the biggest attendance of any sporting event in Cheshire.”
