VILLAGERS flocked to Malpas Summer Fair in the sunshine on Saturday.

Festivities began with a parade through the village to the recreation ground, where there was a funfair and stalls.

A salute at The Cross was taken by Cllr Ann Wright, Malpas representative on Cheshire West and Chester Council, and Malpas Parish Council chair John Webb.

The event included the opening of a new play area on Malpas recreation ground, which was performed by David Brooks, trustee of the recreation ground, who sailed down a zip wire.

This is the third fair organised by the Malpas Fair Committee.

Scarecrows were created in and around the village before the event and the winner was announced on the day: “Dave”, made by Mr and Mrs Williams, Chester Villa, High Street, Malpas.

Second place went to “Cyberman” by the Evans family of Old Hall Street, and third was “Paul”, by Mr and Mrs P Corbett.
