AN elderly couple were taken to hospital after a six-vehicle crash near Chester.
Traffic was held up for several hours after the accident on the westbound carriageway of the A51 Tarvin Road, Littleton, near Vicars Cross in Chester just after 1.50pm on Friday.
Fire, police and ambulance crews attended the scene.
A spokesman for Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said firefighters and rescue crews freed an 80-year-old woman and 82-year-old man from their Suzuki Swift.
Two other cars, a flat back truck, a Renault van and a Polish HGV were also involved in the crash.
Both sides of the carriageway were temporarily closed to allow an air ambulance to land.
The heli-med doctor on board assessed the elderly man, who has a history of heart problems but both he and his wife were deemed fit to travel to the Countess of Chester Hospital by ambulance.
Cheshire Police confirmed the injuries to both patients were minor and they were taken to hospital for check-ups.
There were no other casualties.
