A THIEF has been conditionally discharged after admitting stealing meat from a Chester convenience store.

Warren John Hooper, 42, was filmed on CCTV stealing two joints of beef from the Co-op in Faulkner Street, Hoole, Chester, on April 15.

West Cheshire Magistrates in Chester were told how Hooper, of Ingham Close, Boughton, had recently been released from jail for unrelated incidents.

Richard Thomas, defending, said Hooper admitted the theft  and said the charge should have been included in Hooper’s previous sentence.

Amanda Roberts, prosecuting, said Hooper was challenged by an assistant manager in the Co-op store who asked to look inside Hooper’s bag but he refused.

CCTV footage showed Hooper had concealed the £20 joints and walked out of the store without paying.

Mr Thomas said the theft was committed amongst a string of petty thefts committed whilst Hooper was drinking.

He had now started to turn his life around and was due to attend a job interview.

Magistrates imposed a six-month conditional discharge and ordered him to pay £20 in compensation and a £15 victim surcharge.
