A MAN has admitted responsibility for more than 100 burglaries, including some believed to be in the Chester area, over just nine months.
Darryl Kennedy, 50, of Weast Road, Salford and his three accomplices – two men and one woman – pleaded guilty to conspiring to commit burglaries between April 2013 and January 2014.
At Chester Crown Court, Simon Parry prosecuting said Rosemary Pollard, 57, of Elvate Crescent, Manchester; Winston Bell, 56, of Mitchells Quay, Manchester and Ajaz Ahmed, 45, of Drake Street, Rochdale, were all recruited by Kennedy as drivers, being used on different occasions.
Kennedy alone had committed the actual burglaries. The indictment detailed burglaries at 140 homes. The court heard Kennedy did not accept he had committed all the 140 burglaries.
However, Nicholas Clarke, defending, confirmed his client accepted responsibility for “well over 100 burglaries” and said there “may be more”.
Kennedy rejected responsibility for some of the crimes because of “the particular modus operandi which doesn’t fit in with his way of working”.
One instance had included a midnight confrontation with an occupier.
But Mr Clarke said Kennedy, a “career burglar, doesn’t enter when anyone is present” and always knocked on the door to see if anyone was at home.
“He was the burglar in this conspiracy,” he said.
Mr Clarke said a psychiatric report completed on Kennedy, which would be considered in full when the matter returned to court for sentencing, included “details from him as to why and to what purpose he committed these burglaries”.
Recorder Richard James Pratt QC adjourned sentencing until June 5 pending the preparation of probation reports on Ahmed, Bell and Pollard.
Pollard was granted an extension of conditional bail and Kennedy, Bell and Ahmed were remanded back into custody.
Mr Pratt said he could give no indication of a likely sentence as he would not be presiding when the case returned as “it goes without saying there will be significant prison terms in all of your cases”.
