Cruel late twist leaves Chester fans heartbroken

A BUMPER crowd of  3,500 Blues fans were left stunned as their beloved club were relegated with just four minutes of the season remaining.

In a cruel twist Salisbury equalised at the Deva Stadium at the same time that relegation rivals Hereford took the lead.

With only a handful of minutes remaining, Blues fans had started to believe that their side had pulled off the great escape on the final day of what had proved to be a difficult season after three back-to-back promotions.

But with the equaliser and news filtering through that Hereford had taken the lead, optimism quickly turned to devastation, with hundreds of fans and Blues bosses looking stunned and crestfallen.

After the devastating result a number of fans took to the supporters online forum Deva Chat.

Blue thunder posted: “I know people will see things differently to me but we need to learn from this season if we want to progress in the future.

I felt we let sentiment get in the way with NY when it was clear he was struggling at this level, the team he signed was not physical enough for this league and he didn't have the luxury to swap and change players.

“Another question I have often asked myself is about being part time and the lack of training sessions, we have been constantly been beaten by set pieces and lack of fitness.

When Steve Burr arrived it was always going to be a huge task and he had little time to bring in new players, so all credit to him for doing what he could.

“One thing I would like to do is say a massive thank you too to the loan players that have come in and helped us out.”

Bambi CCFC posted: “Ever since the Barnet game on the opening day, we've looked a bottom four side to me. Even back then, I just couldn't see us scoring enough goals to keep us up.

“What I find gutting is that relegation this season just doesn't feel like it should have been in the script. A year ago we were an upcoming club that had roared to three consecutive league titles. To now find ourselves suffering our first relegation is really hard to take.

“I said a few weeks ago that this team deserves to go down and I haven't changed my view on that. Only, now that we are relegated the difference between now and 12 months ago really hits home and is almost hard to believe.”
