A TEACHING assistant was found hanged in the garage of her adopted mother’s home.

An inquest was held in Chester yesterday for 48-year-old Rachel Leicester, of Quarry Lane, Christleton.

Mrs Leicester died on or about April 16 last year at Benty Heath Lane in Willaston, Wirral.

Assistant deputy coroner for Cheshire, Janet Napier, concluded Mrs Leicester took her own life while the balance of her mind was disturbed.

A post-mortem examination found Mrs Leicester died as a result of hanging.

Mrs Leicester’s husband, Christopher, told the court about the days leading up to his wife’s death.

On Sunday April 14, he described her as being calm .

“She said good night very pleasantly and she went to bed,” said Mr Leicester.

The following day Mrs Leicester was due to return home from work at about 5.30pm, but she never arrived.

Her husband made enquiries, trying to find her.

Mrs Leicester’s adopted mother was in sheltered accommodation, after living at a property in Willaston.

On April 16 Mr Leicester drove to the address in Benty Heath Lane.

He asked a neighbour if they had a spare key and then gained access.

He conducted a search and found his wife in the garage hanging. Police were called and PC Victoria Reed arrived at the scene.

Giving evidence, PC Reed said there had been no sign of a disturbance or a struggle having taken place.

Mrs Leicester had a brother through adoption, Mark Edwards, of Nantwich.

Mr Edwards said during the weekend before her death Mrs Leicester contacted him. He described her as being upset and asking for advice.

Dr Napier told the hearing medical records showed Mrs Leicester had a history of suffering anxiety and depression.

Dr Napier said there was a clear picture of Mrs Leicester being upset. She had money and relationship worries.

”She was a very capable lady, she gave lots of pleasure and education to people at work and her family,” Dr Napier added.
