POLICE are questioning a Chester man on suspicion of indecently assaulting a schoolgirl in an alleyway.
The 15-year-old victim was walking home from school along School Lane in Bidston on the Wirral when she saw a man sat in a Black or dark coloured Peugeot 206.
The man then got out of the car and subjected her to an indecent assault in an alleyway between School Lane and Keele Close, police say.
Detectives arrested a 45-year-old man from Chester on Tuesday and he has remained under questioning at a Merseyside police station.
Police are appealing to anyone with information or who may have seen any suspicious activity in the area before or after the assault to contact them.
The offence took place on Thursday, November 14 at 3.50pm.
The alleged offender is described as white, slim build with dark eyes.
He is believed to have travelled from Bidston Village Road into Lennox Lane, where he stopped in School Lane in Bidston.
Det Insp Mark Tivendale said: “This is a disgraceful attack on a schoolgirl making her way home.
“I’d like to reassure the public that incidents such as this are rare but we are taking this report extremely seriously and are working hard to identify the offender.
“We are particularly keen to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time, anyone who recognises the description of the car or has information about the driver to come forward.
“Any information, no matter how small, could assist our enquiry.”
CCTV is being examined from the area and enquiries continue.
Anyone with any information about this car or the incident should call Birkenhead CID on 0151 777 2265 or Crimestoppers in confidence on 0800 555 111.
